The Ups and Downs of Blogging

Posted by Moses on Mar 4, 2007

It’s been almost 5 days since my last post. Like many GA residents I got hit hard with a pretty tough strain of the flu. It really knocked me out. I’m grateful that it’s just about over, but I am a little disappointed that I was unable to spend this last week writing instead of fighting a fever. This one of the downsides of blogging. Unless I’m actively working on the blog nothing will occur - no SEO, new posts etc. This is also true of most small businesses.

I’ve been thinking about how to insulate both myself and my readers from this limitation. The obvious answer is to write a series of posts and set the publish dates in the future. This definitely supports my new lifestyle i.e. having a day job. However, there is a part of me that wants to write and publish the article on the same day, but the reality is that even without a new job it is an inefficient use of time.

Fortunately, my articles tend to be of a timeless nature and rarely address current events making it much easier to write an article and set the publish date in the future. I have approximately 30 articles in the works. These are at various stages of writing some are just notes, others have been heavily researched and some are drafts. Ideas for articles come from seemingly random occurances such as reading the posts of other bloggers and wanting to explore the topic further or in a different light etc. I use a really cool tool called Tomboy, a GNOME (Linux for you Windows User) based tool that operates as a combination of a web page and a sticky note. It’s an excellent tool for mapping ideas and jotting down notes.

I will spend the next few weeks writing feverishly to allow me to post once a day while maintaining at least 2 weeks worth of unpublished but finished articles.

You can expect to see articles on splogging, the law of attraction, ministry, blogging, entrepreneurship, careers and many more. Thanks for being patient with me for these last days.

On the upside, I have had a wonderful time putting this site together, meeting other bloggers and learning the trade. It’s been exciting. I’ve also learned that some of what I have written has helped others which is very fulfilling.
