Blogrolling and New Blogrolling Policy

Posted by Moses on Feb 7, 2007

I recently read an article at Jon Swift’s blog about the reluctance of many popular blogs to add new blogs to their blogrolls. I was disappointed, but not all that surprised to learn that blogroll linking tends to be very exclusionary especially between newbies like myself and popular, well established sites. We all know that the amount of traffic that you drive to your site is one of the most important variables in becoming a successful blogger. Almost all of the online revenue generating oppurtunities are dependent on the amount of traffic that your site generates.

I have learned that the amount of traffic your site generates is determined by the quality and quanitity (always quality over quantitiy) of your content and your visibility to the blogging world. Links from other sites and ads are really the only viable option for most bloggers to get noticed. However, if you have good content people will find you it will simply take a little longer than you may would like. That’s why sharing links (the 2 way nature of the relationship is important here), is so important for newbies to begin to build an audience and get noticed.

As a result of the Jon’s article, I’ve adopted a similar blogrolling policy. I encourage others to the same regardless of how small you are.

My new blogrolling policy:

I have a liberal blog linking policy. I will exchange reciprocal links to anyone who adds my blog to theirs with the exception of blogs containing inappropriate content. Email me using the contact page for a reciprocal link.

I also reserve the right to remove any blogroll at anytime for any reason. Hey, one of my best friends is a lawyer :-).
